There are a few important things for you to consider in this issue of our weekly newsletter, such as the deadline to apply for graduation if this is your last semester (it’s tomorrow, hurry-up if you haven’t done it yet to ensure you graduate!), scholarship opportunities as well as the annual Nursing Town Hall happening this week for Msc(A) students.

1- Deadline to apply for graduation

Please be advised that Non-Thesis students expecting to graduate at the end of the Winter term (Spring 2013 convocation) must apply on Minerva to graduate no later than Monday March 11th, 2013Please forward this message to your students in order that they can apply to graduate by the deadline.

2- PGSS accreditation – Vote now

This is an important announcement to exercise your rights in the next PGSS Elections. Voting in any type of election provides an important way to voice your opinions regarding elected leaders and overall policies. Voting also helps you decide on your own future, the ability to vote exists as one of the most cherished Constitutional Rights that many fought for. We really count on your to take 2 minutes to go vote, we expect all our members to vote.

When to Vote: Now – until March 15th

Come vote in the Research Unit. A voting station is set-up on
one of the computers all week long and FREE cookies will be provided.

3- Call for Abstracts: Interdisciplinary Graduate Student Research Symposium

Hello dear Interdisciplinarians,
Ever wonder what happens when you cross engineering with epidemiology, music with medicine or chemistry with computer science?
Find out at the 9th Interdisciplinary Graduate Student Research Symposium will be taking place at Thomson House on March 27-28, 2013. This conference is run by students, for students and is a great way to share and discuss your research to a wide and interested audience.

Join us! Submit an abstract for a talk or poster by Wednesday, March 13th. Registration is free for McGill Graduate students.  Cash Prizes will be given for the best presentations and posters!

5- FRESIQ/MELS competition

The MELS competition for Master’s scholarships will open again for the 2013-2014 year. Criteria for submission, eligibility and other details can be viewed at the FRESIQ website: http://www.fresiq.org/recherche_inf/faire_demande/prog_mels_universites.htm

If you are eligible and wish to apply for this award, submit your completed application to the awards committee NO LATER THAN March 15, 2013. The committee must meet, review the applications and rendered their nomination to FRESIQ in April and given the other School activities between now and then, we want to give the committee as much lead time as possible.

6- RRISIQ Conference and Workshop Dr. Lynne E. Young

RRISIQ is pleased to host Dr. Lynne E. Young (RN, PhD Professor, Associate Director Graduate Education, PhD Program Coordinator University of Victoria, BC) on March 25th 2013

In the morning Dr. Lynne E. Young will present a conference about “What is nursing education intervention?”, while in the afternoon Dr. Young will lead a workshop aiming at exchanging ideas between researchers, students, and anyone interested in developing and testing knowledge in nursing education

8- Postdoctoral Fellowship in Faculty Development & Medical Education

The Centre for Medical Education at McGill University, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Faculty Development and Medical Education Research. This competition is open to permanent residents of Canada, Canadian citizens, or international scholars. This is a one-year funded-position, to begin on September 1st, 2013. 9- The “13-to-1” Campaign – Petition Against Budget Cuts

Did you know that for every $1 invested by the Quebec Government into McGill there is a return on investment of $13 to the Quebec economy? McGill’s Department of Microbiology & Immunology have started the “13-to-1” Campaign.  This campaign aims to gather signatures to express your support in educating the Quebec government of the positive contributions of McGill to Quebec and to ask for the reversal of any dangerous budget cuts being pushing through:

Please join our 13:1 campaign: for every signature you secure, ask for 13 more.  Campaign your friends, family, colleagues, etc.
