The Nursing Graduate Student Association (NGSA) is pleased to announce the annual spring elections to fill the executive positions for the 2014/2015 school year.
Who Are We?
The NGSA is the official student association representing master- and doctorate-level nursing students at the Ingram School of Nursing, in the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The NGSA also represents graduate nursing students at the Post-Graduate Student Society (PGSS).
The Executive positions to be filled are:
– Vice-President, Academic (Master’s)
– Vice-President, Finance
– Vice-President, Administration
– Vice-President, Communications
The sixth Executive Council position is filled by appointment:
– Vice-President, Academic Affairs (Doctorate)
Please refer to the NGSA Constitution – April 2013 for information about the NGSA positions to be filled.
To cast your vote:
Proposed Amendments to the NGSA Constitution
There are also several constitution amendments to be voted on during these Spring Elections. We have developed proposed modifications and additions to the Constitution, which were approved by the NGSA Council and will be available to you shortly. You will have the chance to vote on the proposed changes when casting your vote for NGSA executive candidates.
Are There Other Ways To Get Involved?
Absolutely! The Council is also made up of Class Representatives from each of the academic years and entry streams. As such, there are the following positions:
– Direct-Entry Qualifying Year
– Direct-Entry MSc
– Direct-Entry MSc II
– Nurse-Entry MSc I
– Nurse-Entry MSc II
These positions will be filled by a volunteer or by consensus or secret ballot in the case where there are multiple students that are interested.
It is important to note that NGSA Class Representatives—in addition to their NGSA role—are also required to represent their class at the SFAC, the Student-Faculty Advisory Committee. SFAC meetings occurs a few times a year to discuss pending and new course- or program-related challenges in an open exchange forum between student and faculty representatives. Thanks to SFAC, the master’s program is continuously evolving, allowing the faculty to adapt the academic curriculum to the changing needs of students and to optimize adequate preparation for entry to practice.
The Vice-President, Academic Affairs (Doctorate) position, as stipulated in the Constitution, will be filled as decided by consensus or, if necessary, by secret ballot by doctoral students, and the nominee will be recommended to the President of the NGSA for appointment.
Finally, as we hold several academic and social events throughout the year, we will be looking for volunteers! You can always get involved and participate in the student life experience by joining the NGSA in planning, executing, and evaluating events. Stay tuned for upcoming volunteer opportunities!
